Searching for Van Gogh

Paris. July 2017. This was a great day in my life.

The train from Gare du Nord in Paris to the suburb of Auvers-Sur-Oise, the last place Van Gogh lived and where he died.

What a lovely clean commuter train.

What a lovely clean commuter train.

Van Gogh left the party life of Paris and found peace in the beautiful town of Auvers. His last few months of life were very productive. He painted and painted.

Lunch in the quiet town.

I do miss dining in France.

The City Hall that Van Gogh made a painting of.

Toured the house where Van Gogh lived and the room, his bedroom where he painted, in which he died. No pics allowed inside. It was very emotional. Do go if you can.

The story they tell here of Van Gogh’s death is different than the one they tell at the Norton Simon. Not a suicide, they say in France. No gun was found.

Searching the village for Van Gogh.

Not quite sure where the cemetery is.

Not quite sure where the cemetery is.

Vincent stumbled a long way back from the field where he was shot, to die in his room.

Perhaps a child shooting birds accidentally shot Vincent, and he took the secret to his grave to protect the child. That is one theory.

The field where Vincent was shot.

The field where Vincent was shot.

It is right by the church he painted and also the municipal graveyard in which he is buried.

Vincent with his brother Theo, who always took care of him. Theo died a few months after Vincent.

Together forever now.

Together forever now.

I cried.

Van Gogh found.
